Introducing: Marissa Roberts, Redyn MacDuff, and Molly Tucker

We are so excited to introduce three new cycling instructors: Marissa Roberts, Redyn MacDuff, and Molly Tucker to the Rêve team! Each of these instructors personify the magic and light that you feel each time you clip in here at Rêve. These ladies bring their own unique style of teaching, music taste, and personality to the podium and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them on our team. We recently caught up with each of them to get a feel for their classes, and where we might find them outside of the studio.

How did you find out about and first start coming to Rêve?

MR: It was the summer of 2020 when I booked my first Rêve class with my best friend Ellie! The class was outside at Thompson’s Point and I remember falling in love with the music, the rhythmic movement, and all the positive vibes.

RM: I took my first Rêve class in 2019 and was hooked right from the start. One of my roommates had started riding at Rêve and I’ve always been an avid gym and group exercise goer after being an athlete (soccer, lacrosse, and ice hockey) throughout my childhood into college. She told me that I would love Rêve and I started taking cycle classes, mostly with Savannah and Emily at the start (miss those ladies), and was instantly riding a few times a week. I quickly became a regular in Nicola’s yoga sculpt classes and took tone & trim with Amber but absolutely loved the spin classes. Flash forward four years (riding at the Rêve studio, outside at Thompson’s point, Halo, Brick South, and now back to the studio) and I’m at 300+ rides and am so excited to transition to the other side of the podium as an instructor.

MT: I had wanted to try spin for years and heard about Rêve from many folks in Portland that it was THE place to go, but I was too nervous to walk into a new place on my own. When Rêve set up outside at Thompson's Point in the summer of 2020, I convinced my husband it would be a fun outdoor activity date. He wiggled around the bike uncomfortably the whole time and I was dancing all around the bike with a giant smile on my face. I had a lot to learn, but I was instantly in love with cycling and the environment that Rêve creates.

What has your journey to being an instructor been like?

MR: In high school, I played a sport every season. In the fall I played soccer, in the winter I ski raced, and in the spring I played lacrosse. In college I continued to play all three sports. Once I graduated from college I knew I needed to find a way to keep myself in shape. Running, resistance training, and cycling have become a passion of mine. Finding spin as an alternative for all the running was exactly what I was looking for to balance it all out. Becoming an instructor allows me to share my passion for fitness and activity. I really believe in the idea that “movement is medicine”.

RM: I definitely think it’s an advantage to join the studio as an instructor after being part of the Rêve community for so many years as a rider. Per my app stats, I’ve rode with 25 instructors and have taken classes every day of the week, mornings and nights. There have been a lot of changes and inconsistencies in life and the world over the past four years, but Rêve has been a constant for me and is a space that I can always rely on to dedicate an hour to myself each day in the most uplifting atmosphere. The amount of support that I’ve felt being part of the community has only magnified since deciding to become an instructor. I love the hype that the riders (OGs and new faces) have brought to my community and first few rides and can’t wait to keep this momentum going. It’s been a completely humbling experience but SO fun and I’m super appreciative to have trained with Molly and Marissa all summer!

MT: Around 100 rides, I knew that I wanted to be an instructor. There was just something about the energy and the music that made me say to myself,...”I’m meant to do that.” I studied music growing up and in college, so music is a big part of who I am. I knew I had to gain more cycling experience and earn my place, so I put it in the back of my mind and consistently rode in the Rêve community for a couple years. When Rêve moved back to the home studio on Forest Ave, I was approached about working here with washing towels and eventually taking on desk shifts. When auditions were announced in May, I knew this was my time to put myself out there. Rêve is the perfect place to show up with your whole self and I’ve gotten to do that in this process of becoming an instructor.

What might the Rêve community expect from your classes?

MR: I will be your number one hype person. If you need a “pick me up” then I got you! No matter what kind of day you are having, I promise you’ll always leave my class with a smile. Fitness is meant to be fun, and I work hard to design my classes to be as enjoyable as possible.

RM: I tend to ride on the heavy side and don’t fear the resistance knob. I love riding up in third, stomping it out side to side – I feel super powerful in those moments and love the push and pull when you’re in a dark room with an absolute jam blasting through the speakers. I like to incorporate tap backs and elbow drops but also enjoy a good run in second or a sprint out of the saddle. I definitely want to incorporate a little bit of everything into my classes but will always let the beat define and lead you into each move.

MT: I adore the community that spinning fosters - a spin class is a place where we can all come together, have fun and work really hard. You can expect a rhythm-based full-body dance party with opportunities for heavy pushes and stepping just outside your comfort zone.

Some music you’ll definitely find on my first few playlists will be…

MR: Whitney Houston, Earth Wind and Fire, anything disco, Lizzo, …and anything country!

RM: Say It – Illenium Remix by Flume, Tove Lo & Illenium, 1000 Nights – Frenship, Hear Me Say – Jonas Blue, Leon, and The Best – Tina Turner!

MT: I definitely bring my eclectic music choices of pop, house remixes, rock, EDM, country and more into the studio; working hard to find music that supports connection, whether that’s to the movements on the bike or to scaffold a mind-body connection. A handful of my favorites are: The Lion, The Beat, The Beast - Grace Potter, Road Less Traveled - Lauren Alaina, Ascension - Big Wild, Indian Summer - Jai Wolf, Shine a Light - Kaina, The Rising - Bruce Springsteen, Blah blah blah -Armin van Buuren

When I’m not at the studio, you can find me…

MR: Spending time and having fun with my fiancé, my friends, and my family… as well as golfing, reading books, skiing, and staying at our camp up near Sunday River. Or having a delicious espresso martini!

RM: I love to stay busy and spend a lot of time with my friends and family. I’m originally from WMass and go home quite often or am up north at my husband’s family camp. I’m a diehard Boston Bruins fan and just got tickets to go to the Winter Classic at Fenway which I’m super pumped for. I love going to concerts, blasting music on back road drives, and try to travel a few times a year. I eloped to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada last month and married my husband Tom after eight years together. We live in Westbrook (and have been trying to buy a house for the last 2.5 years which has not been fun) but we are huge foodies and love the outdoors – we spend a lot of our time fishing and playing golf.

MT: Spending lots of time outdoors in the mountains or at the beach, running the Portland trails, strolling the farmers market, and supporting the local music scene.
