Rêve Rider Spotlight: Alan Chebuske

With summer right around the corner and the outdoor cycling season upon us, for our Rêve Rider spotlight this month we wanted to highlight someone who is dedicated to riding both in and out of the studio, meet Alan Chebuske — local dentist, and an avid Rêve rider and outdoor cyclist. Come along for the ride as we catch up with Alan!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I live in Portland with my wife.  We have three grown children and five grandchildren who live all over the world - from Amman, Jordan to Los Angeles, to the Virgin Islands!  I’ve also been working as a general dentist for almost 40 years(!)

What inspired you to start coming to Rêve and when did you start?

I am an avid biker.  A friend introduced me to Rêve in the winter of  2013 when the weather was too bad to ride outside.  For the first few years, I only went when the weather was bad, but I realized what a good workout I get in classes and how much more energetic I feel during the day after a class, so I started going regularly during the week on days I don’t have time to ride outside.

You’re such a dedicated regular– what makes you keep coming back?

Over and above the great workout I get, I really enjoy the energy and positivity of the instructors.  They make me work hard -  and have fun doing it!  What could be better than that?

Besides Rêve, what are some of your other favorite local spots?

I like being on the water and exploring the islands in Casco Bay.  I love Scarborough Beach (in the summer and the winter)!

How would you describe Rêve to someone who hasn’t been here before?

It’s a great workout with an encouraging and supportive staff .

We’re coming up on Summer! Do you have any plans? What’s your favorite way to spend time outdoors?

I have a big ride in Vermont - 109 miles with 10,000 feet of climbing — next month! My favorite way to spend time outdoors (other than on a bike) is at the beach or on a boat or climbing around rocks - in other words, enjoying what makes Maine the best place in the world!

We love having Alan in class and wish him all the best on his big ride in VT coming up this summer!
