It's a Big Thing to Shop Small Businesses

On the hunt for the perfect gift for your loved ones? With thousands and thousands of options out there it can be hard to narrow down where to shop. This year — if you’re not already — consider shopping local. Supporting your neighbor, whether that be your favorite coffee shop, restaurant or maker keeps your investment local, gives you a better experience, and you can find a really unique product! Earlier this month we asked YOU where your favorite places to shop are.

Back Cove Books:

Who doesn’t love cozying up by the fire with a warm blanket, cup of coco and good book? Pick up a book (or two) at Back Cove Books located at 651 Forest Avenue in Portland. From bestsellers, to new releases, paperbacks and hardcovers. You can get exactly what you need for that special person on your list. Or if you’re not sure what to get them, pick up a gift card! 

Prime 360:

Prime 360 located in Portland and Auburn offers performance and lifestyle training in person and online. The team offers athletic development, movement therapy, personal training, lifestyle coaching, a complete athletic assessment, basketball skill development, a sauna and thai body work. In addition to training, you can also buy some gear to support this local establishment. 

Sea Love I A Candle Bar:

Sea Love, a hand crafted candle boutique, is owned by husband and wife Barry and Stacy Miller. They have a plethora of scents from Coastal Redwood & Coconut, Sea Salt & Sage, and an entire holiday collection. You can order an individual candle, a bundle or you could even reserve a spot to pour a candle yourself with friends. Visit their location at 2 Ocean Avenue, Dock Square in Kennebunkport. 

Monstera Vintage Home Decor:

This one’s for the antiquers out there! Located at 28 Vannah Avenue in Portland, you’ll find Monstera Vintage Home Decor. The owner and founder Abigail Nelson comes from a family of antiquers and thrifters and spends her time searching for unique finds up and down the Maine Coast. From glass trinkets, flatware, pottery and mini recipe books, you’re sure to find something special! They’re hosting a Sip and Shop event on December 3rd! Learn more here. 

Fitz & Bennett:

Fitz & Bennett is nestled in the historic Old Port of Portland. The owner, Lauren, is originally from Connecticut but opened the shop in 2017 with a vision of bringing a selection of beautiful, affordable objects for your home. You can find holiday items, jewelry and accessories, home decor, cards and books and items made in Maine! Check out their Instagram for more info on their hours here. 

Gus & Ruby:

Gus & Ruby is a custom design and print studio located at 28 Exchange Street in Portland (with two other locations in Portsmouth & Boston). Here you’ll find unique ornaments, beautifully crafted holiday cards, Advent Calendars and even special gifts for the host of that holiday party you’re going to. You can shop online, buy a gift card or visit the shop in person. 

Food & Drink:

A great way to shop local and support our neighbors is by visiting restaurants and coffee shops! Whether you’re in need of a caffeine pick me up or a meal to break up the shopping or you want to pick up a gift card, consider this list of restaurants - all conveniently located walking distance from Rêve(!): Proper Cup, Rose Foods, The Local Press, Maiz Columbian Street Food, Bird and Company, and The Great Lost Bear.

Want a one-stop-shop to support your local makers and creators? Head to Thompson's Point! The Makers Market features local vendors selling everything from jewelry, to artwork and even some sweet treats.
