Introducing: Lauren Magnuson

It’s tough to believe that we are ushering in the final weeks of 2021. The year has brought a number of new triumphs, challenges, and our magical return to Forest Avenue. We have settled back into our space, and cherish getting to connect with our community within the four walls where it all started.

This is why we are so excited to welcome our newest instructor, who we feel personifies all things Rêve. Lauren Magnuson is a lifetime athlete who discovered indoor cycling as a way to continue moving after her collegiate track and field career came to an end. On the bike, she found an opportunity to continue to build her endurance and stamina while combining her love of both music and movement. After first coming to Rêve in 2020, she became enamored with the way it felt like stepping into home. Plus, teaching is in her bones, as she’s a teacher off of the bike as well.

Now, you can catch her on the bike each week! We caught up with her to talk about her journey to the podium, what we might expect from her classes, and where we might find her outside of the studio.

How did you find out about and first start coming to Rêve?

I first found out about Rêve through a friend who insisted I try Yoga Sculpt with Nicola (love her!). I absolutely fell in love with the Rêve community, and once I took my first spin class I was absolutely hooked.

What has your journey to being an instructor been like?

Growing up I played a variety of different sports, and eventually fell in love with track and field. I went on to run collegiate track and field as a competitive sprinter, but after graduating I felt lost not being part of a team. Around that same time, I was approached about training to become a spin instructor! The entire process of learning to teach spin was love at first clip-in. Finding ways to motivate and inspire a group of riders is something that never gets old! Now, two years later, I still feel like I learn something new every time I step on the podium.

What might the Rêve community expect from your classes?

In my classes you can expect a good mix of rhythm and resistance work. I want you to push yourself both physically and mentally, so that when you walk out the door you feel like the best version of yourself. You will leave my classes feeling strong and capable of crushing all your goals and wildest dreams!

I want my classes to be a reflection of your own unique experience with movement, and this starts with personal connections. I’m so excited to get to know everyone, and making some Monday night magic!

My favorite moment in class is when…

…you finish a big climb and bring the flywheel back to 0. It’s in that moment that you  realize the power in your own strength, and become cognizant of how much your body is capable of. I love finding moments in class to honor the work my body does for me each day.

A second favorite moment is when an absolute banger of a song comes on and our shared energy in the room spikes! I absolutely love hearing my riders sing along!! Sometimes a killer song is all you need to find that next spark of inspiration.

Some songs you’ll definitely find on my first few playlists will be…

My taste in music is truly all over the place! I’m a big fan of pop, early 2000’s, hip hop, and a good country remix… the songs I’ve been currently listening to nonstop are:

Way 2 Sexy- Drake, Future, Young Thug

Bad Idea- Ariana Grande

You for Me- Rita Ora

Overpass Graffiti- Ed Sheeran

Jesse McCartney… every song he’s ever recorded. I love him!!

When I’m not at the studio, you can find me…

Teaching tiny humans, browsing a local bookstore, drinking way too much coffee, eating all the amazing Portland food, walking my handsome golden retriever named Winston, or spending time with friends & family.
