Maintaining Motivation
Did you know that each year by Valentine's Day, nearly 80% of people have abandoned their New Year's resolutions? With cold temperatures, mounting snow piles, and the pull of the coziness of our couches, sometimes it can be a real struggle to get out the door and keep moving. At Rêve, we are lucky to have an amazing team of instructors who continue to challenge us, but we realize that occasionally you need a little extra push to find the motivation to get to the studio. In order to keep you going after this critical point, we've compiled some tips to keep you focused on your personal goals. Read on for more!
Write it Down
Several studies show that writing down your goals, both for the short- and long-term, helps to keep you on track. Be specific. Swap out "I will workout more" for "I will go to 2 Cycle classes and 1 Tone & Trim for 3 consecutive weeks." Keeping things simple and clear will help to keep you accountable.
Find a Buddy
Sometimes it's easy to think about working out as an individual endeavor, but it does not need to be! Choose a friend who will help keep you on track. Together, you can make plans to attend classes--and with our new sign in system, pretty soon you'll even be able to be sure that you'll have bikes next to each other! If you have someone waiting for you, you're less likely to start another episode of that new show you've been binging and get to the studio.
Don't Be Too Hard On Yourself
If you miss a workout or fall off track for a bit, don't be too hard on yourself! Often we get sucked in a self-induced cycle of shame; whatever you do, don't let yourself slip into it. Each day is a new day to work towards your goals and to start fresh.
Reward Yourself
Another great way to stay motivated is some good old fashioned bribery. Identify a little reward for all of your hard work. It could be something as simple as promising yourself your favorite coffee or breakfast sandwich after a weekend class or something more elaborate. One fun trick we love is to put a dollar into a workout jar for each day you get in a sweat session, which can be used for whatever your heart desires (like, say, some sweet new Rêve gear).
Finally, one thing that we can always count on to get us going is a motivational playlist; as Kanye says, "Every superhero needs his theme music." We asked our instructors to tell us what their favorite pump up jams are. Click play on the list below next time you need an extra boost!
