Meet Meg Courchesne, The Newest Addition To Our Team!
We are thrilled that Meg, who’s been riding at Rêve for more than a year, is now taking the jump from rider to instructor! A University of Southern Maine sophomore who’s passionate about music and teaching, Meg’s energy and passion for music combined with her many experiences riding at the studio make her a perfect fit for the Rêve team. Read more about her below, then book your bike for her FREE community ride, happening this Thursday, 11/19, at 5:30. We can’t wait!
1. Why do you love indoor cycling so much?
I was first introduced to indoor cycling when I was 16 and my mom dragged me along to a class. And to be honest, at first, I hated it! I was convinced that I was never going back. But I did, and soon enough I got over the sore butt excuse and loved it. Indoor cycling became an activity that my mom and I would do together. During my junior and senior years of high school, we would drag ourselves out of bed for 6 a.m. spin classes. We would show up with our crazy hair and foggy eyes (I’m sure other Rêvers can relate!) and leave class feeling ready to tackle the day. It became our little routine and gave us mother/daughter time while doing something that we enjoyed other than shopping. Then again, shopping can be a workout too. Especially with my mom, she walks fast!
2. Teaching’s a big job! About what are you most excited? What makes your class unique?
Teaching is a big job but so rewarding. I also teach swim lessons and not only do I love working with the kiddos who have come through over the years, but I also love to watch them learn a new skill that they will have for the rest of their lives. The same applies to indoor cycling. I love being part of that 50 minutes in someone's day where they can just focus on themselves. I think we tend to get so caught up in the day-to-day chores that we forget to take care of ourselves. Being able to teach and provide a kickass workout for someone who may have had a bad day, is a routine exercise junkie, or someone who just enjoys riding with others, is why I love teaching. That being said, when people come to my class, they will find themselves immersed in a fun and energetic environment where they are encouraged to sing along! When I was six, my dream was to be a famous pop star. I used to make a microphone out of a headband and tin foil and sing along to anything Britney Spears, TLC, and Shania Twain. When I teach, I sometimes channel that six-year-old Meg and sing along too. This time with a real microphone.
3. Where can we find you when you’re not at the studio?
I am a sophomore at the University of Southern Maine so if I am not at the studio you can usually find me in class or at the Glickman library. Specifically on the 7th floor, it has the best view of Portland! I also have a 16 year-old brother who plays hockey for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs. So if I am not at the studio or at school, I am cheering on my favorite hockey player.
4. What’s your favorite part of class?
My favorite part of class is being with everyone. The positive energy that goes through the cycling room is amazing. There have been days when I was having a bad day but then, I walk through those doors and my mood changed. It’s addictive. And of course I love all the music, who doesn’t?
5. Top three tunes right now?
Currently my top played on my Spotify account are: Drake, Justin Bieber, and Ja Rule. Even though those are my top played artists now, they are a very small reflection of what I like. The Biebs is SO hot right now with his new album so of course he is on my top played!
