Instructor Spotlight: Erika Furtado

We took a few minutes to catch up with our newest instructor, Erika Furtado, who will be teaching Thursday nights at 5:30 beginning this Thursday, 1/8. As an experienced instructor, competitive swimmer, college rower, triathlete and fitness competitor, Erika is always looking for the next athletic challenge! She is a Maine native who just recently moved back to the area from Washington, D.C. Her classes are high energy and her goal is to empower each rider to work toward his/her full potential. Learn more about her below, then book your bike for her class!

What are you up to when you're not teaching? I am a grad student, working on my doctorate in physical therapy. I am currently on my last internship and will be graduating in May! I also do fitness competitions, so when I’m not spinning, you can usually find me lifting in the gym.

Why and when did you start teaching? I have been a lifelong athlete and was drawn to cycling because it was a great workout and it was fun! I started teaching 3 years ago while living in D.C. I was a middle school teacher at the time, so I figured if I could teach 30+ kids at one time, why not cycling classes?!

What's one of your favorite things about teaching? Getting others excited about working out. Any favorite winter activities? Snow shoeing and ice skating.
